Even though it was their last two games before playoffs, the Oregon club hockey team had their focus elsewhere. For seven seniors, it would be their last home games as Oregon Ducks and, for some, their last competitive ice hockey games period. For these two nights against the College of the Canyons Cougars, the number on the board didn’t matter as much as playing with friends and playing for fans and family.

Connor McBride pursues passion for music
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonHis entire life revolved around hockey. That is, until music came along.
Music took a hold of senior Connor McBride’s life after he left The Hill School, a preparatory boarding school in Pennsylvania with a rigorous hockey program.
“Playing hockey there is like playing football here,” McBride said.
Ducks hockey splits Washington series, loses I-5 Cup in shootout
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonIt was a rough night at the Lane County Ice Center for Oregon club hockey.
After losing 3-2 in an extremely penalty-riddled Game 4, thereby splitting the four-game series, Oregon and Washington turned to a five-man shootout to determine who would ultimately take home the I-5 Cup.
Oregon hockey takes lead in I-5 Cup series with 1-0 shutout win at home
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonFriday night’s game—which gave the Oregon club hockey team a 2-1 lead in the series against the University of Washington—didn’t fit the typical mold of I-5 Cup games. Usually the games between the two rival hockey clubs are fast-paced, with both teams having piles of penalties along with a few points each on the board.
This game, the third game of the series, was the reverse.
Oregon hockey splits first two I-5 Cup games in Washington, looks to head home with momentum
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonAfter a 4-3 loss and a 6-3 win in their first games of 2014 on Friday and Saturday, the Oregon club hockey team will return to Eugene for the final two games of the heated University of Washington series. The series between the two rival teams is one of the most important of the regular season since the winning team takes home both the I-5 Cup and bragging rights until the two meet again next season.
Trevor Peterson makes the jump from roller hockey to ice
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonWhen you ask an ice hockey player where he learned to play, the answer is rarely Nipomo, Calif.
The reason? There’s no place to play.
Many ice hockey hopefuls had to head to other cities like Bakersfield or Oxnard, both two hours away.
But senior Trevor Peterson — now a goaltender for the Oregon club ice hockey team — didn’t start on ice skates. He began on roller blades.
Nick Sciabarra stays humble through recent success
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonNick Sciabarra did not expect this level of success when he joined the Oregon club hockey team earlier this fall.
The Oregon freshman never thought he’d be playing center instead of right wing, which he previously played. He never thought he’d be on the second line for his first year with the Ducks. And he certainly never thought that, during his rookie season, he’d be tied for first in assists as well as be the second-leading player in points and goals on the team, just two behind junior Alex Sulitzer in both categories.
Oregon hockey narrowly wins against USC but not without casualties
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonIt once again came down to the final few minutes in the Ducks’ hard-fought 4-3 victory over USC on Saturday night.
The Oregon hockey team’s momentum seemed to have finally started to turn. Hot off of a much-needed win the previous night, the Ducks looked to rob another two points from the University of Southern California. USC, on the other hand, had only lost by one the night before and looked to get the win they had been in reach of.
Oregon club hockey snaps losing skid in close game against USC
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonThe game can be summed up in one word: great. In their first game against USC, Oregon broke their no-scoring streak and broke their losing streak all while in front of the largest (and loudest) home crowd they’ve seen all season.
Ducks hockey shutout by Utah for 4th straight loss
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonThe first period looked hopeful.
Coming off of a rough weekend at the San Jose State showcase where the Ducks left 0-3, Ducks hockey was back on the road for their third game in the University of Utah series. Oregon wasn’t alone with their losses, however. The Utes were coming off of a three-game losing streak from both Utah State and Weber State.
Both teams came out strong, but the Utah offense proved to be a challenge. Only twenty seconds into the first period, Oregon goalie Danny Cockriel had to make the first save of the game. 17 seconds later, he had to make the second. 37 seconds after that came the third save by Cockriel.
