Women’s tennis: No. 67 Oregon beats No. 69 Utah State, 5-2, on road stint

In their first match of the season against a ranked team, the No. 67 Oregon women’s tennis team took on the No. 69 Utah State Aggies and won 5-2, taking the doubles point after wins from Nia Rose/Alyssa Tobita and Marlou Kluiving/Nicole Long.

Oregon women’s tennis edged out by Portland, 4-3

Oregon (5-2, 0-0 Pac-12) faced off against the Portland Pilots (4-2, 0-1 West Coast) in the Student Tennis Center for their eighth match of the regular season. After some extremely close singles matches, Portland narrowly came away with a 4-3 victory.

Oregon women’s tennis: Ducks sweep Santa Clara University 7-0

It was Oregon’s second consecutive road game, but their fourth consecutive win. After a more difficult meet against UC Santa Barbara yesterday, today the Ducks made easy work of Santa Clara and swept the Broncos 7-0.

The Ducks flew south to Santa Barbara, California to face off against UCSB in their first game of their two-match road trip. The Ducks made work of the Gauchos, winning 5-2.

Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita find instant chemistry as freshmen

Freshman Alyssa Tobita’s first impression of her current doubles partner, freshman Nia Rose, was less than ideal. It was the women’s tennis team’s first practice of the year and Rose was already late.

“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. Who is this girl on our team? She can’t even make the first practice on time,’” Tobita said, laughing.

Oregon women’s tennis beats Iowa 4-3 in final game of homestand

Earlier this afternoon Oregon (2-2, 0-0 Pac-12) took on Iowa (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten) for what would be the Ducks’ final game of their homestand before heading to Santa Barbara, California next weekend. The Ducks edged out Iowa 4-3.

Oregon claimed the doubles point, but not without effort. After splitting the first two matches, clinching the point came down to the No. 1 doubles match between Nia Rose/Alyssa Tobita and Iowa’s Annette Dohanics/Shelby Talcott. Originally the Hawkeyes duo was up 5-2 and needed only one more point, but Rose/Tobita rallied a comeback eventually winning the set 7-6.

Oregon women’s tennis team beat UNLV 6-1 in dual opener

In its first dual meet of the season, the Oregon women’s tennis team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to play the UNLV Lady Rebels. The Ducks dominated the Lady Rebels with a 6-1 win at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, an improvement over their 4-1 loss to them last season.

Last year, the Oregon women’s tennis team ended the season with a disappointing 7-15 record (1-9 in the Pac-12 Conference), but with a new coach and promising performances in the fall, this year the Ducks’ future looks brighter.

Oregon women’s tennis excels at Bulldog Classic, finish tournament 20-8

This Halloween weekend, the Oregon women’s tennis team headed down to Fresno, California for the Bulldog Classic to participate in its last tournament of the fall. The Ducks ended the meet 20-8 overall and were 10-3 the first day and 10-5 during the second day. The typically three-day competition was cut slightly short as Day 2 was cancelled due to rainy conditions.
