Weekend recap: Oregon Ducks hockey sweeps UCLA at home, snaps losing streak
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonIn their first games of the winter quarter, Oregon club hockey took on the UCLA Bruins in what would prove to be two intensely physical games. Oregon came away with both wins (4-3, 5-3) and effectively broke their five-game losing streak from games prior to winter break.
Oregon hockey sweeps Portland State over Halloween weekend
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonThe Oregon club hockey team easily handled the first two games of the Portland State series this weekend, ending their homestand with 5-3 and 9-0 wins on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
“There was definitely an improvement,” said goaltender Trevor Peterson of the second night compared to the first. “I think that PSU may not have played as well [the second night], but we also looked a lot better and a lot cleaner. We were a lot faster.”
Oregon hockey blows past Washington 7-2, sweeps I-5 Cup home games
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonFor the second night in a row, Oregon club hockey faced off against the Washington Huskies for game 2 of its annual I-5 Cup series. In what usually are close games — last year’s cup was determined by a shootout after splitting the four-game series — the Ducks sailed through the Huskies’ defense, winning the two games 9-3 and 7-2.
Ducks hockey falls 5-1 against ASU, eliminated from Pac-8 tournament
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonAfter a 5-2 victory against UCLA the night prior, the three seed Oregon club hockey team took on the top seeded No. 15 Arizona State University Sun Devils where they fell 5-1. The loss meant elimination for the Oregon Ducks as ASU moved on to the Pac-8 Championship against the reigning champs, the No. 5 Utah Utes.
Nick Sciabarra stays humble through recent success
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonNick Sciabarra did not expect this level of success when he joined the Oregon club hockey team earlier this fall.
The Oregon freshman never thought he’d be playing center instead of right wing, which he previously played. He never thought he’d be on the second line for his first year with the Ducks. And he certainly never thought that, during his rookie season, he’d be tied for first in assists as well as be the second-leading player in points and goals on the team, just two behind junior Alex Sulitzer in both categories.
Oregon club hockey snaps losing skid in close game against USC
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonThe game can be summed up in one word: great. In their first game against USC, Oregon broke their no-scoring streak and broke their losing streak all while in front of the largest (and loudest) home crowd they’ve seen all season.
Oregon hockey sweeps Portland State in penalty-ridden game
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonThe boys were chippy Saturday night.
Oregon was looking to win the fourth and final game of the Portland State series during their second home game in a row against the Vikings. Win they did. With a 5-1 score at the end, Oregon swept PSU for the second year in a row.
The win didn’t come too easily for the Ducks, however. With tensions still high from the night before and Portland having something to prove, the play was rough and tough.
Oregon hockey’s Alex Sulitzer gets hat trick with win against Portland State
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonEven after a week-long break, Oregon club hockey continues to dominate the ice.
Oregon played the Portland State Vikings on Friday night for their third game of a four-game series in which the Ducks took home a 7-1 win.
The first period had an explosive start. Both teams came out strong with fast and physical play. Within the first three minutes, Oregon goalie Danny Cockriel had already drawn a whistle and stopped play by covering the puck with his glove after a shot by PSU.
Oregon hockey wins 16-2 and sweeps Washington State at home
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonJust before Oregon played the Washington State Cougars in football, they faced off on the ice for Washington State’s second and last game in Eugene.
Oregon, who split their opening weekend at home 2-2, once again defeated the Cougars, but this time it was with a 16-2 score.
