In the second round of the Pac-8 tournament, No. 3 Oregon (13-10, 6-4 Pac-8) faced off against No. 2 USC (13-9-1, 10-5 Pac-8) for a spot in tomorrow’s Pac-8 finals. Even though USC had the higher seed, Oregon got the win and eliminated the Trojans, 4-1. While it was only USC’s first game of the tournament, it was Oregon’s second. The previous night, the Ducks eliminated Cal after a 6-1 victory.

Six minutes and ten seconds into the first period of the Oregon Ducks’ third home game of the season, junior Michael Luke entered the penalty box quieter than usual. He sat down, leaned forward and drew his arm across his chest, cradling his right side.
Weekend recap: Oregon Ducks hockey sweeps UCLA at home, snaps losing streak
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonIn their first games of the winter quarter, Oregon club hockey took on the UCLA Bruins in what would prove to be two intensely physical games. Oregon came away with both wins (4-3, 5-3) and effectively broke their five-game losing streak from games prior to winter break.
Oregon hockey excited for second half of season, will face UCLA
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonThe first half of the Oregon club hockey season was tough, and the team’s 5-8 record shows it. With a schedule loaded with skilled teams, the Ducks came out of the gate facing some of their toughest opponents. However the Ducks are excited and optimistic heading into the second half of the season.
From cut to captain: Patrick Sgarlata’s road to Oregon hockey leadership
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonThird time was a charm for then-junior Patrick Sgarlata. After two years of being cut from the Oregon club hockey team, he finally earned a roster spot and the Oregon jersey on his back.
Now a graduate, the jersey he wears currently is a little different than before. He sports a number 10 on his back instead of his previous 26 and a “C” on his front. Sgarlata is now the captain of the team he struggled to make two years ago.
Oregon hockey gearing up to #TakeBackTheCup
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonFriday, Oct. 17, the Ducks hockey team will face Washington, the team’s biggest rival in the league, in the home opener at Lane Events Center. Each year, both teams square off in a brutal four-game series for the I-5 Cup.
Last year, Washington won in a shootout after splitting the series 2-2. The year before, Oregon took it home for the first time in four years after an overtime victory.
“We don’t play Oregon State in hockey,” senior goaltender Trevor Peterson said. “This is really our biggest rival. We have the I-5 Cup and that’s our thing, our big game.”
Unsatisfied with its brief time with the cup, the team has spent the last month releasing Youtube videos with the hashtag #TakeBackTheCup to pump up fans, and themselves, for the start of the regular season.
Ducks hockey beats UCLA 5-2, will face ASU for spot in Pac-8 Championship
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonThree seed Oregon took on six seed UCLA for the first game of the Pac-8 playoffs held in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Ducks emerged victorious with a 5-2 win over the Bruins.
The win over the Bruins means that the Ducks will be facing the No. 15 Arizona State Sun Devils, the top seed in Pool B, tomorrow night for a spot in the Pac-8 Championship, where the Ducks had fallen to Utah the year prior.
Broadcast brings players, fans and family together
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Stories & Features, University of OregonAt the beginning of the year, things were looking grim for Oregon club hockey.
The team was $13,000 in debt and risked having the plug pulled on their season.
Things needed to change.
Family and fans important in final nights of regular season
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonEven though it was their last two games before playoffs, the Oregon club hockey team had their focus elsewhere. For seven seniors, it would be their last home games as Oregon Ducks and, for some, their last competitive ice hockey games period. For these two nights against the College of the Canyons Cougars, the number on the board didn’t matter as much as playing with friends and playing for fans and family.
Oregon hockey takes lead in I-5 Cup series with 1-0 shutout win at home
Daily Emerald, Hockey, Recaps, University of OregonFriday night’s game—which gave the Oregon club hockey team a 2-1 lead in the series against the University of Washington—didn’t fit the typical mold of I-5 Cup games. Usually the games between the two rival hockey clubs are fast-paced, with both teams having piles of penalties along with a few points each on the board.
This game, the third game of the series, was the reverse.
